Panther Men's Cross-country Team Takes Third in Tough Conference Meet

On a sunny late afternoon at Grand Haven High School, the Men's Cross-country Team took on the entire OK Red Conference in the second of 2 "Jamboree" meets and came away with a third place finish. Despite finishing third, the Panthers still have a chance at an outright conference championship with 50% of the title to be decided in the conference finals on October 16. By placing 6 runners in the top 20 finishers, West Ottawa managed to defeat Rockford, Grandville and Hudsonville while falling to East Kentwood and Grand Haven. Senior captain, Michael Dummer led the way for the Panthers with a 10th place finish in a time of 16:47. Senior Jake Follett and freshman Max Post followed close behind in 11th and 14th places respectively, with times of 16:52 and 16:54. Senior Cam DeVries (16th place, 17:03.2) was joined by junior captains Sebastian Ruiz and Boston WIlkinson who finished in 17th and 18th places respectively with times of 17:03.5 and 17:08. Senior Porter Yurk rounded out the top 7 for WO in 25th place with a time of 17:27. The next competition for the Panthers will be this Saturday morning in the Otsego Invitational on one of the fastest course in the state.
