Once again, the West Ottawa Men's Cross-Country team relied on a potent pack to defeat the entire OK Red Conference in the first of 2 "jamborees" that each count as 1/4th of a conference title. Senior captain Michael Dummer led the way with a 7th place finish in a personal record time of 16:37. Dummer was quickly followed by senior Cam DeVries (11th place, 16:49), junior captain Sebastian Ruiz (14th place, 16:57) and freshman hotshot Max Post (15th place, 16:58). Junior captain Boston Wilkinson (17th place, 17:01) and senior Jake Follett (19th place, 17:13) combined to push points onto opponents. Sophomore Nick DeRoo rounded out the varsity top 7 with a 31st place finish in 17:57. In all, the Panthers had 6 runners with personal records as they continue to get faster with each race. West Ottawa's historic and dominant victory places them at the top of the OK Red conference for the first time in 21 years. The 23 second difference between the Panthers' number one runner and number 5 was the lowest differential in the race and was a crucial factor in the victory. OK Red foes, East Kentwood and Rockford finished in a tie for 2nd place at 69 points while Grand Haven finished in 4th, Hudsonville in 5th and Grandville in last place. The Panthers' next race will be September 20 in the "Cougar/Falcon" invitational held on the campus of Calvin College.
