Cross-Country Men Take Second Place at Under the Lights

Late last Friday night the West Ottawa Men's Cross-country team proved that hard work pays off by taking second place out of 16 teams in the Midnight Division of the "Under the Lights" invitational. The Panthers provided some fireworks of their own with a powerful pack Led by seniors Jake Follett (17th place, 16:35) and Cam DeVries (19th place, 16:38). Juniors Sebastian Ruiz (21st in 16:40) and Boston Wilkinson (22nd in 16:42) joined their fellow captain, senior Michael Dummer (23rd in 16:45) in rounding out the top 5 for West Ottawa. OK Red Conference opponents Rockford, Hudsonville and Grandville were among the stunned competitors left floundering in the dark far behind the overwhelming Panthers. Freshman standout Max Post grabbed 28th place with a personal record of 16:57 in his first high school race. Post is already the 3rd fastest freshman in West Ottawa cc history. The top 7 was completed by senior Porter Yurk who managed to get the final medal in the race with his 17:52. In all, the Panther men's team achieved 15 personal records, a second place award and 7 medals. Their next competition will be this Wednesday afternoon at the Kalamazoo Central Invitational at 5:45 pm.
