The boys varsity tennis team took our home courts Saturday 8/22 to compete against 3 solid schools from the east side of the state. This event also has Rockford & Hudsonville come out to the lakeshore and compete against the 3 east side schools as well. Hence the name "East vs. West" Invite. This is the 5th year we've run the event and this year didn't disappoint. The panthers opened with a very strong Detroit Catholic Central squad that tied for 3rd last year at the Division 1 State Finals. The Chiefs won four all 4 singles matches and 3 of the 5 the doubles courts to secure the dual-meet victory 7-2 In round 2 West Ottawa faced a solid Rochester squad that tied for 9th at last years Division 1 State Finals. Playing very solidly against DCC in the opening round gave the panthers a lot of confidence going into these matches. Splitting the singles matches and winning 4 out of 5 doubles matches earned West Ottawa a 6-3 victory. Though the last matches of the day, West Ottawa recognized how important it was to come out with energy and excitement against a good Northville team that took 8th at last years Division 1 State Finals. Again splitting the singles, this time West Ottawa converted all 5 doubles matches to secure the match win 7-2. This is the first time that West Ottawa has beaten Northville. Going 2-1 overall on the day is a very solid outing for the panthers.
