Boys Varsity Tennis wins home opener against Jenison 8-1

West Ottawa Defeats Jenison in 8-1 Holland West Ottawa (2-1) defeated Jenison (0-1) by an 8-1 score on August 20th, leaning on a clean sweep of the doubles flights to secure the dual-match victory. The Panthers also picked up wins at three of the four singles positions to control the match from top to bottom. Jenison’s lone point came at No. 1 singles, where Drake Apol held off Soren Traver 6-3, 6-4. West Ottawa answered at No. 2 singles when Jack Zernicke topped Calvin Soukup 6-3, 7-5, and Isaac Watkin of West Ottawa followed with one of the day’s best comebacks, recovering after a 6-7 (5) opening-set loss to beat Jack Devereaux (3-1) 6-1, 6-3. Gavin White beat Grant Compston 6-2, 6-3 at 4 singles to round out the singles flights. West Ottawa’s depth showed in the doubles lineup, starting with Lincoln Taylor and Dawson Linn’s 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Josh Reimink and Jonah Hoff’s 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Brody Sayrath and Ethan Byrd (2-1) also rallied from a first-set loss to beat Elliot Wass (3-1) and Ryan Langdon (0-1) 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Ethan Gibson (3-0) and Blake Theobald (3-0) closed out the sweep with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 decision at No. 5 doubles. West Ottawa continued its strong start to the season with another dual-meet win.
