West Ottawa wins both matches in duels with Grand Haven and Forest Hills Eastern

Hey WO Tennis Family, I'm probably going to struggle in this article to sum up just how well our girls played today. And I'll definitely fail to capture what happened in one of the best individual matches I've ever seen live. But we'll give it a go. Yesterday we played a double duel, which is exactly how it sounds...we played two teams one after another, kind of like a double-header in baseball, except against two different teams. We won both matches 9-0 and 8-0 respectively. That means in total, we won 17 matches and lost 0. More than that, we won each match in straight sets. That means we won 34 total sets and lost 0. Again, it's difficult to describe just how hard this is to do. But now we have to shift focus to the Forest Hills Eastern match, specifically at 1 singles. Simply put, Evie Price played one of the most electric and high level tennis matches I've ever witnessed from a West Ottawa player. If it wasn't the single best performance I've seen, it's definitely on the Mount Rushmore of individual performances. She played Lilah, a lefty who rarely loses to anyone. The match went three and a half hours, and the points varied anywhere from great to "wait, did I just see what I thought I just saw". It was worth the watch, that's for sure. Also, I'd like to give a special shout-out to Paislee Hartman and Eden Slager. They normally play 5th doubles for us, but against FHE they played 3rd doubles so we could rest a couple girls with low grade injuries. Paislee and Eden stepped up big time and delivered a straight set victory. Well done ladies. Another shout out should go to a Izzy Gitler for her performance against FHE, as well as Kallyn and Lovelle in their match with Grand Haven. In both matches, they found themselves down 2-5 in the first set. In both cases they responded by winning every remaining game to take a 7-5, 6-0 victory. It was a remarkable turnaround by both. Finally, I'd like to give a shout out to the flights who won 6-0, 6-0. Against any opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0 is incredibly difficult, because there's no margin for error. In Singles, Evie, Izzy, and Maggie were able to pull it off. In fact, Maggie did it in BOTH matches. Wow! In doubles, Mallory Paff and Hope Sikorski accomplished it against Grand Haven, with Hope Hughes and Hailey Geerlings following suit in the Forest Hills Eastern match. These are hard things to do and take great focus over a long period of time. Well done ladies! The win with Grand Haven puts us undefeated through the duel portion of OK-Red play. Here are the Conference Standings leading up to the Conference Championship Tournament this Saturday: OK-Red Standings 1. West Ottawa 5-0 2. Rockford 4-1 3. Hudsonville 3-2 4. Grandville 2-3 5. Grand Haven 1-4 6. East Kentwood 0-5 The Conference Tournament will count for the other 50% of the standings. Our girls are in a good position going into the tournament, but obviously we'll have to continue the strong play if we want to raise the trophy in two days.
