Girls Varsity Tennis · Girls Varsity Tennis finishes 7th place at Division 1 State Finals

  Place Points
West Ottawa High School 7th 12

This weekend the girls capped off their incredible season with a 7th place finish at the State Finals. Prior to this season, the highest finish in program history was 8th place. Like usual, it was a team effort, with 6 of our 8 flights advancing to the state quarterfinals.

West Ottawa women’s tennis has won conference titles, regional titles, earned academic all-state, and taken top ten finishes at the State finals before, but this is the first time in program history to do all three in the same season.

Here’s a list of some of our accomplishments this Spring:
– Overall record of 9-1-1
– Conference Record of 6-0
– OK-Red Conference Tournament Champions
– Regional Champions
– Regional Coach of the year -Pete Schwallier
– 7th Place at the Division 1 State Finals
– Academic All-State (Average team unweighted GPA is 3.86)
– West Ottawa’s was highlighted in Tennis Industry Magazine for having one of the top ten new tennis complexes in the country last year.

A special thanks the entire West Ottawa community for supporting what West Ottawa Public Schools are doing right now. This has objectively been the best year in school history both academically and athletically for the entire district. What makes me most excited is that our success isn’t confined to just a few areas. Academics, athletics, the arts; every part of this district is putting out incredible work right now. This is a good time to be part of West Ottawa.

In a week, summer will be here, and the girls will be back on the courts preparing for a successful 2019 season. We return 10 of our 12 players, and Rockford returns 11. The rivalry will continue, and we’ll be ready. Let’s Gooooo!!!!!
