The WO Girls Cross Country team won the first of three OK Red Jamborees tonight in an extremely close and competitive race. Both West Ottawa and Rockford’s top five runners totaled 57 points; the tiebreaker became the 6th runner for both teams. WO’s 6th runner, Iris Swarthout, finished one place ahead of Rockford’s 6th runner, helping West Ottawa claim the win.
Leading the panthers were senior Katie Frauenheim and junior Abby Olson placing 4th (19:29) and 6th (19:45), respectively. Next, Senior Mady VanWieren and freshman Kaia Denhof had excellent races finishing 11th and 14th. Senior Taylor Schott had a strong finish and placed 22nd overall. Iris Swarthout ensured the win with her 32nd place finish.
This is only the second time in program history that West Ottawa has won an OK Red Jamboree, making it a significant win for the team. The team will race again on Saturday at the Cougar-Falcon Invitational in Grand Rapids.
