West Ottawa won the District Championship Saturday afternoon by beating Grand Haven 7-0. West Ottawa used outstanding pitching, clutch hitting, and great defense to capture the district title. Travis Bethke led of the second inning with an infield base hit and Adam Dykens had a bunt single. Then Mike Walsh hit into a fielders choice scoring Bethke for the Panthers second run of the game. Then with two outs Ben Burns hit Bethke home with an RBI single, then Mike Walsh crushed a double over the Center Fielder’s head to score Burns.
Tyler Bosma threw a complete game 4 hitter for the Panthers striking out 6 and walking two. Bosma did a great job of getting ahead of hitters and getting outs early in the count. Bosma only threw 82 pitches in the game. Adam Dykens had a fantastic diving catch up the Right Center Field gap to record the first out of the Top of the 2nd inning. Isaac Van Dyke also held on to a diving catch while colliding with Shortstop Ben Burns for the first out in the top of the 3rd. Van Dyke would stay in the game and hit a HR to lead off the top of the 4th. Tucker Fritz, Ben Burns, Travis Bethke, and Matt Cox all made fine plays behind Bosma. Mike Walsh also played a strong RF behind Tyler. Catcher Luke Linart was fantastic behind the plate allowing no passed balls or stolen bases all game, he also had a great put out in front of the plate to end the bottom of the 6th inning. The final out was recorded on a foul out along the third base line to Tucker Fritz. The Panthers advance to Regional Play next Saturday at Grand Haven High School.
