Panthers News · Panthers complete Coaching Staff for Dance and Girls Lacrosse

Earlier this week West Ottawa Athletics finalized coaching staff hires for Competitive Dance and Girls Lacrosse. “I am excited about these hires for both programs. They all bring a level of experience within their sports” said Bill Kennedy West Ottawa Athletic Director.

For Competitive Dance the Head Coach will be a familiar face as Jessica Carr moves to the Varsity position after years spent at the JV level. “Jessica has proven to be an organized, knowledgeable coach at the lower levels over the past few seasons. I am excited to see what she will bring to the Varsity program” added Kennedy. Coach Carr is clearly excited about the opportunity “I am so excited to be back at WO with the competitive dance team. The team has a lot of talented athletes and I can’t wait to help showcase their skill.”

Earlier this fall Coach Aaron Skomial stepped down as Varsity Head Coach for Girls Lacrosse to spend more time with family. Luckily for West Ottawa a couple of recent hires at the High School and Waukazoo Elementary bring playing and coaching experience to the table. “Girls Lacrosse can be a difficult program to find the right fit for. With the relative newness of the sport in West Michigan finding coaches with this type of experience is not always easy.” said Kennedy. Coaches Aliisa Mason and Erin Gallagher both bring Collegiate playing experience and previous coaching experience to the table.

Coach Mason who is a counselor at the North HS played collegiately at Sienna Heights and previously coached at Oxford HS. “I am very excited to join the girls lacrosse program at West Ottawa this year as one of the coaches. I have grown up playing the game of lacrosse and I am so excited to be able to share my passion for the game at West Ottawa. I am looking forward to making connections with the players and helping this program continue to grow in the years to come!” added Mason.

Coach Erin Gallagher who is in her first year of teaching at Waukazoo Elem. comes to West Ottawa after a collegiate career at Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia were she also served as an Assistant Coach following her graduation. “I am excited to bring what I have learned from college coaching to the lakeshore and grow the game of lacrosse even more! I am looking forward to working with a group of girls who are eager to learn and ready to better themselves on and off the field.” said Gallagher
