Panthers News · Kaitlyn Lawton hired to lead WOVB

On Monday June 8th it was announced that Kaitlyn Lawton has been hired to lead the West Ottawa Girls Volleyball Program. “We are excited to have Kaitlyn take over the program. I look forward to working with her to continue to grow the program” said West Ottawa AD Bill Kennedy. “We have had great stability in the program under Courtney (Naber) for the last 8 years and this hire will allow us to continue with a face that is familiar.”

Lawton returns to West Ottawa after accepting the Jenison position earlier in the Winter. The pull of West Ottawa was too much to ignore for Lawton who always saw herself leading the West Ottawa program. Lawton spent the last 8 years as the Head JV coach for West Ottawa building competitive teams in the challenging OK Red. Prior to coming to West Ottawa she spent 2 years at Black River HS and 2 years at Michigan Elite in Detroit. A 2004 graduate of Mattawan HS she began her coaching career at Michigan Elite during her Senior year at University of Detroit Mercy ’09.

“I am excited to continue my time with athletes that I have watched grow up and develop into not just skilled volleyball players, but wonderful young women” said Lawton. She added “My goal is to continue pushing the program and carry on the legacy that past coaches and players have started.  I believe that “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”  It is a mentality that I hope to instill in our players for not only volleyball, but for everyday life.  We will continue building the WOVB family and we will be relentless in all that we do.
