The West Ottawa women’s tennis team achieved another first today, winning the Traverse City Invitational in a tie with Traverse City Central. Rain forced the event indoors today, which meant the event went from 9am till 7pm…ten hours of play by our girls!
Traverse City Central is perennially a top ten team at the state finals. We tied them 4-4 head to head, the first time this has happened in at least a decade, and likely ever. Making it more exciting yet is that we started down 0-4 to TCC, then won the last four matches against them to pull back to 1st place. The girls did a terrific job staying confident. I was particularly impressed today with all of the newcomers to varsity this spring. They don’t look or act or play like newcomers anymore. They were confident, poised, and played their best at the most difficult times. They were the last matches on, and they fought us back for the win.
Here’s a little more detailed recap of how we did on the day. We were:
8-0 vs Grand Haven
7-1 vs Holt
4-4 vs Traverse City Central
