Multiple Teams · WO Varsity Football Proves Themselves in A Huge Win Over HC


Coming into this year there were a lot of questions about our very own West Ottawa Panthers, tonight they answered several of those questions.

Head Coach Rory Zegunis has now started off his first year as Head Coach with two victories. Despite losing several key starters our Panthers are looking like a very solid team this year.

Junior QB Trevor Van Tubbergen threw for 164 yards on 9-15 passing with one TD and one INT. TVT also rushed for one TD.

Senior Brandon Allen rushed for 170 yards on 12 attempts amounting to a whomping 14.17 yards per carry with 2 TDs(a 43 yard run and a 52 yard run).

Senior Alek Mares ran for 76 yards on 7 attempts, including a 13 yard TD run.

Senior Jackson Brown scored on a 59 yard pass from TVT.

Junior standout kicker Bryan Holmes nailed a 42 yd field goal and never missed a PAT.

WO’s defense proved themselves tonight as they held HC’s Jon Kraker to 55 yards rushing on 15 attempts. WO’s defense also kept senior QB Luke Brower in check as he went 10-22 with 1 TD and 3 INT.

WO also scored on the defensive end on a 14 yard INT return thanks to Senior Roman Mares.

In other news, wopanthers.com would like to give a shout out to our cross town rivals Holland High as they snapped East Grand Rapids’ 34 game win streak tonight by beating EGR 30-22.

As for our OK-Red Foes and how they faired tonight, Rockford rebounded after a loss to Lowell by beating Holt 42-7. East Kentwood drops to 1-1 after losing to Zeeland East 28-7. Grand Haven is now 2-0 as they dominated TC West 48-21. Jenison is now 1-1 after beating Caledonia 35-13. Grandville is now 0-2 as they lost to Ottawa Hills 46-25.

WO is now tied for first with Grand Haven and potentially Muskegon depending on their game Saturday against Muskegon Heights, heading into OK-Red Conference play.
