Team Expectations

Swimmers & Divers:

  • Always do the Right thing.
  • Always do your Best!
  • Treat others the Way you want to be treated
  • All athletes are expected to have a positive attitude, a willingness to try new things, and work towards personal and team improvement.  
  • Profanity and poor sportsmanship will never be tolerated.
  • You must have a Physical Form on file at the Athletic Office by the beginning of the first practice.
  • Team swimsuits will not be provided.  However, we will select a team suit that you may purchase if you wish.  Details to purchase are on the back of this sheet.
  • An Insurance Fee of $33.00 must be paid by Jan. 27th.   Please make checks payable to West Ottawa Public Schools.  Place checks in an envelope with athletes name on the outside of the envelope.
  • All players are expected to be at every practice on time.  If you are unable to make a practice or especially a meet, because of illness or emergency, notification must occur as soon as possible through email.  hardyj@westottawa.net  Failure to follow this may result in not being able to participate in the next meet.

  • Attendance Policy for athletes:  Athletes who are not in school for at least half a day must gain permission from the Athletic Office to either participate in practice or in a game.  Any time out of school must be excused.
  • Nobody enters the pool without permission from a coach or the Pool Director (Mrs. Lewis).  You will be required to stretch with the team and complete a thorough warm-up in order to prevent injuries.
  • The way in which you practice will directly affect the way in which you perform in meets.  Always put forth your best effort whether it is a drill or a practice set.
  • Horseplay on the pool deck or in the locker rooms will not be tolerated and may jeopardize your participation in meets.
  • Practice is required, including Friday’s however I will allow you to leave early twice on Friday throughout the season.

 

Meets:

  • Start times for all meets, home and away, is always 4:00 pm.  After home meets all athletes are expected to help clean-up and put away equipment.  
  • All athletes are expected to dress appropriately for all meets.  No jeans or attention getting attire.  Behavior of athletes before, during, and after meets should be consistent with citizenship and good sportsmanship.  Behavior that reflects poorly on the individual or the team will not be tolerated and may restrict your participation in meets or as a member of the team.
  • Each team member should encourage and support one another.

 

Academic Eligibility rules:

  • Athletes must be passing 6 out of 7 classes and with a D or higher.  Athletes that are not eligible will have week to bring their grades up.  
  • Athletes that are ineligible may practice, but cannot participate in meets until I receive notification from the office that they are once again, eligible.

 

Parents:

  • The parent meeting is at Harbor Lights Gymnasium at 5:00pm on Jan. 25th.  There are many items with which I will need parent assistance.
  • We will need volunteers to help with the timing of all of our home meets.  Any parents interested in timing will have to have completed a Volunteer form by Jan. 27th
  • Communication:  It is important that we have current emails and phone #’s so that we can relay updates and information about meets, pick up times, etc.  Please make sure we have this so that we can have open lines of communication.
