Game Recap

On a beautiful late-summer evening, West Ottawa visited Covenant Christian on the west side of Grand Rapids. Though West Ottawa controlled play for much of the evening, Covenant got on the board first when a ball got loose in the defensive box where a serendipitous Covenant forward struck it home. After a number of excellent scoring opportunities including a header by Sr. Danny deForest that found the post, WO finally earned the equalizer when Soph. Ray Masko launched from an unlikely angle along the end line, nonetheless finding the net. The half ended even at one.

In the second half, Jr. Ivan Chacon and the rest of the WO midfielders further established control of possession, building repeated scoring opportunities. One such try, a diving header by Sr. Peter Lehmann, flew just wide. At 10:42, Omar Mireles drew a penalty in the box, then calmly walked to the spot and converted with a firm strike to the right corner.

Despite numerous additional opportunities, the Panthers were unable to add to their goal total.

The Panthers play next on Monday at home against Mona Shores.
