Meet Recap

On a cold, bright and windy afternoon in Portage Michigan, the West Ottawa Men’s cross-country team took on an elite field of over 300 runners from across the state of Michigan and from across the state lines of Illinois and Ohio. 43 division one teams raced in the Portage Invitational on October 8th and West Ottawa fared much better than expected, led by Aaron Weimer’s time of 16:33. Logan Reimink (17:02), Jake Stryker (17:03) and Liam Walits (17:12) also contributed mightily to the smashing of online predictions that had the Panthers placing as low as 31st. With West Ottawa’s fifth man, Alex Miller (18:09) racing past opposing runners like an angry blur, the Panthers place 22nd and continued their late season drive for success. The top 5 WO runners totaled 146 individual places better than expectations, helping them defeat teams like Grand Ledge, Grand Blanc, East Kentwood, Forest Hills Central and Forest Hills Northern. Between the varsity and jv races, West Ottawa men racked up 28 improved times and 11 lifetime personal records. The next competition for WO will be on Saturday, October 15 in the Kent/Ottawa cross-country invite held on the grounds of Calvin College. Varsity guys race at 10:00 am.
