For the third consecutive year, the Panthers managed to fight off local rivals Holland, Holland Christian, and Zeeland West and come out with the win at their own invitational. After only an hour of play, storms rolled in forcing everyone to move inside; though it was going to be a long day, the Panthers kept their focus on winning matches, and that is exactly what happened.
Six out of the eight doubles players for West Ottawa are new to the varsity team; their play didn’t show inexperience at all, however, as 2nd doubles team Brandon Ballard/Mason VanDyne and 4th doubles team Andy Radke/Kurby Sao came runner-up and 3rd doubles team Nick Govert/Hugh Davis took first in their flight. The singles for the Panthers dominated the field, taking 1st place in all four flights with a collective record of 12-0 against the local teams. Joe Miller took first at 4th singles, Mark VanderStoep won at 3rd singles, Nick Schnobel champ at 2nd singles, and Kyle Harper won the flight at 1st singles. It was a successful season debut for the boys varsity tennis team; they look forward to a lot more victories to come this season.
The final team point scores for the day were as follows:
1st – West Ottawa 40 pts.
2nd – Holland Christian 32 pts.
3rd – Holland 29 pts.
4th Zeeland West 0
