Wednesday, May 30, 2012, the Girls Varsity Soccer team here at West Ottawa will be going to Grandville to play in the semifinals of the district tournament. Placing 4th this season in their conference, the girls are pumped up for Wednesday’s occasion. However, they are a bit unsure of what might happen at this point.
The team has a first round bye, which means that they will be playing Grand Haven. Sr. Bailey Chapman elaborated on the soccer team, and their record with Grand Haven.
“We lost against Grand Haven in April. It is always a bit of a toss-up with Grand Haven, but we have only lost twice. I think we have a good chance in Wednesday’s game,” said Chapman.
Chapman also is considering how the field at Grandville will affect their game.
“The field is grass, which usually helps; however, the field is pretty little,” said Chapman.
The other game will be with the winners of the Grandville v. Muskegon game and the Muskegon Mona Shores v. Hudsonville game. The outcome of this bracket is hard to predict much like our own.
Soph. Maggie Smith, player on the girls JV team, made a prediction for Wednesday’s game.
“Grand Haven is slightly close to the skill level of our varsity team, so it will be a close game. Hopefully it will be in our favor,” said Smith.
The semifinal game for District 1 will be held at the Grandville Soccer Field at 5:30pm. Come out and support the Panthers.
